DescriptionJoan Thornycroft Farjeon (1888 - 1989) was the wife of Herbert Farjeon. They married in October 1914. She was the daughter of Sir Hamo Thornycroft RA, sculptor. Joan was also, via her aunt Theresa Sassoon née Thornycroft, first cousin to Siegfried Sassoon, war poet (and also a keen cricketer).

Herbert and Joan had 3 children, Joscelyne, Gervase (the donor of this collection) and Annabel Farjeon (1919-2004), was a ballerina and author. Besides becoming a respected critic, sometimes contributing to periodicals under the pseudonym Sarah Jefferson, Annabel Farjeon was known for her books for children, including The Siege of Trapp's Mill (1972), The Poetry of Cats (1974), and The Unicorn Drum (1976). In addition, she completed a biography of her aunt titled Morning Has Broken: A Biography of Eleanor Farjeon (1986).
