Barry England with 'Figures in a Landscape', published by Cape,
Nicholas Mosley with 'Impossible Object', published by Hodder & Stoughton,
Iris Murdoch with 'The Nice and the Good', published by Chatto & Windus,
Muriel Spark, with 'The Public Image', published by Macmillan, and
G. M. Williams with 'From Scenes Like These', published by Secker & Warburg.
The Judges were W. L. Webb (Chair), David Farrer, Frank Kermode, Stephen Spender, and Dame Rebecca West.
