TitleShepperton Sound Studios
Admin/Biog HistorySound City, a film producing and recording studio at Shepperton, Surrey, had been established in c1932 by Norman Loudon in the grounds of Littleton Park (comprising a house by Sir Christopher Wren and grounds) which he had bought in 1928. Connell, Ward and Lucas were employed to design an expansion to the existing studios in 1934-1936. Walter Taylor Ltd were employed by Connell, Ward and Lucas as contractors for the project and Helsby Hamann and Samuely (a structural engineering firm) were invited to design a steel structure for parts of the project. Colin Penn was chief assistant on the project. The studios were requisitioned during the Second World War (1939-1945) by the Ministry of Defence, after the nearby Vickers-Armstrong aircraft factory was bombed. The studios resumed work in 1945 and were still in use in 2014.
