Contains transcriptions of largely biographical texts on John Newcome, Master of St John’s College Cambridge and Dean of Rochester; Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680); Mary Lely (died 1799); The Marquis of Granby; Ann Lavinia Lely; John Lely (alive 1737); Sir Richard Lely, Barrister at Law, Lincoln's Inn, London from various written sources including Horace Walpole and Richard Graham, possibly also Bainbrigg Buckeridge and George Vertue, as well as quotes from XVIIth-XVIIIth century poets including Alexander Pope and Edmund Waller.

Includes four loose sheets containing further notes on Peter Lely (1618-1680), Peter Lely (died 5 August 1761) and Godfrey Kneller.

The following information was provided by Peter Lely (born 1939) upon viewing this notebook. "It appears to have been started by David Lely (1743-1807). Sir Peter Lely was his great grandfather. David Lely was a Grantham lawyer. The entry of histories and epitaphs up to page 26 appear to be by him. The remaining eulogies plus notes on Lely may have been collected by his son Frederick (1782-1843). The handwriting is in a similar style to a signature I have."
