DescriptionThe Wicklow papers relate to the Howard family of Shelton Abbey. Highlights of the collection include detailed correspondence between the Howard family and associated families covering a period from the early 18th century to the early 19th century; journals of a late 18th century European Grand Tour by Robert Howard (2nd Earl); and records relating to the Howard family art collection held at Shelton Abbey. In 1998, the papers were acquired by the National Library of Ireland.

The file contains transcripts of letters, receipts, inventories and catalogues sent or pertaining to various members of the Howard family, Earls of Wicklow (primarily Ralph and Hugh Howard) made by Constable and others in the course of research for the Wilson publication.

Also includes a copy of: The J.B. Speed Art Museum Bulletin, Louisville Kentucky, March 1961 (XXII) No.3 featuring an image of the portrait of Ralph Howards, Sheriff of County Wicklow, 1752, by Batoni on the cover.
