| Description | This sub-collection contained reference books and books owned by Oliver Messel, dealing with a variety of subjects including the history of art, architecture, clothing and furniture design. There are also sale catalogues from various auctions of art and theatrical memorabilia as well as biographies of people with whom Messel worked and became friends.
Any books which appear to have been used as reference texts by Messel (i.e. they show indications of bookmarking particular pages or illustrations) remain with the archive collection. Other books have been transferred into the main library but a complete list is available on consultation with the archivist. |
